2010 Great Langdale Road Races Open Today

This year's Great Langdale Marathon, Half Marathon and 3K Family Fun Run will take place on Saturday September 25 2010 from 11am, with registration opening today.
The Langdale Marathon and Half Marathon races have the reputation as being amongst the toughest road events in the UK. Exceptionally hilly with some parts of the course climbs being 1:3 this challenging race attracts a both seasoned runners as well a large number of ordinary people looking to challenge themselves.
Hosted in the beautiful Langdale valleys the route takes the runners in an anti clockwise direction from Great Langdale to Little Langdale through topicturesque hamlets of Skelwith bridge, Chapel Style and Dungeon Ghyll. Route Map here.
For all ages, children especially welcome, the Family Fun run heads up the Valley to The Old Dungeon Ghyll and back. Starting 1 Hour before the main race parents can easily run with their children and return to complete the main race. The Fun Run is a completely flat course, which is suitable for prams and wheelchairs, however dogs are not permitted to come along with their owners. The Fun Run is £3 to enter, payable on the day.
All runners will receive a commemorative T-shirt on completion of the races, as well as a certificate and Ice Cream for the kids in the Fun Run. Marathon runners will also receive a medal for their efforts.
All courses will start and finish at the Stickle Barn Tavern, Great Langdale, near Ambleside. The Fun Run will start at 11am, with the start of the Marathon and Half Marathon at midday. There will be free parking near the Start/Finish with Hot and Cold food available also.
Online Marathon entry is £20.50, Half Marathon entry at £17.50 for unattached runners. (Paper entry and attached runners at a reduced fee) The races have a limit of 600 entrants, closing date September 18.
