Triple Ten Racing
23 APR2010
Renato Losio of runabroad.com told northernrunningguide.com about five races he would suggest, on one of the most bizarre dates in the running calendar this year, 10/10/10. For runners looking for something a little bit quirky this autumn, check out these triple ten races.
For a different taste of Bavaria, enjoy a marathon, a half marathon, a costume-run (with traditional Bavarian garbs and costumes) or a 10K at the Jubilee edition of the Munich marathon next October. Just a week after the end of the Oktoberfest, the greatest (and most expensive) beer festival in Europe, the marathon starts at the Olympiapark and you will run past the Ludwigstraße, the Englischer Garten and Marienplatz before going back to the Olympiastadion, through the large Marathontor.
Meia Maratona Sport Zone, Portugal
Along the Douro river estuary, enjoying the best streets of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia and crossing twice the (amazing) Dom Luis I bridge. Run by the Caves do Vinho do Porto, take a look at the stunning zona Ribeirinha and enjoy a great finish next to the sea. As a reward after the race, sip a glass of local wine and try the bacalhau in one of the many restaurants in Cais de Gaia.
In Brussels' avenues and boulevards, crossing the most beautiful parks of the city: the amazing finish in the spectacular Grand Place justify the too many road tunnels and the surprisingly hilly course. The race starts in the Esplanade of the Cinquantenaire Park, not far from the European Parliament. The Brussels marathon and the half marathon are the main running events in the capital of Belgium.
Zagreb is a race away from the crowd, in 2009 less then 1K runners joined the Vecernjak's Zagreb marathon and the Hervis' half marathon. Combine the running weekend with some great food at Dolan market or relax on the Dalmatian coast. Start and finish are in Ban Josip Jelacic Square.
Marathon International de Buenos Aires, Argentina
The course runs through many of the city's main neighborhoods such as Palermo and Recolet and ends in Buenos Aires' grand central park, called Parque Tres de Febrero. The 42K runners go through the colorful La Boca and upscale Puerto Madero districts, while the half-marathon 21K runners split off and return via one of the city's highways.
Runabroad.com showcases some of the best runs around the world, giving tips on how to enjoy them on a budget. The website is run by a group of runners from around Europe and beyond, always looking to try new races in new places.
