Stampede To Success At Staveley
21 JUN2010
This weekend's Staveley Stampede saw 130 runners take on the popular 10 mile course under lovely sunny skies and warm conditions. The exciting race saw Nicky McGee (Blackhawkbikes) take first position, with a sub 1hr time of 59:38, who lead for almost the whole race, with a 1 and a half minute gap at the half way point. Nicky kept this lead to the finish, despite being stung by a wasp on the way.
Second in the race was Andrew Meskimmon of Dewsbury Road Runners with a time of 1:01:11 and Kim Brown took third spot in 1:01:47. First in the women's race and 5th overall was Karen Pickles of Pudsey Pacers with a time of 1:04:30. Winner of the F60 category was Gertrud Porter of Metros in 1:24:07. She travelled from Denmark to attend a wedding nearby, and managed to top her category in style the next day.
Bringing up the rear, was Jake Maltby in 2:03:35, a fantastic achievement for a runner who had major heart surgery only a few years ago. The mid-point runner was Richard Gomersall, an unattached runner, coming in with a time of 1:22:56.
Organisers were thrilled with the success of this year's event and are now looking forward to what next year can bring. Full results from the Staveley Stampede can be found here.
