It's Up To You, New York, New York
24 JUN2010
Runners wanting to take part in the 2010 New York Marathon on Sunday, November 7, will have to act fast. Sports Tours International has a few remaining places for the last of this year's five marathon majors but these are certain to be snapped up ahead of entry deadline date of Thursday, July 22. Sports Tours International has a range of packages on offer from basic flight/race entry to deals that include luxury accommodation and sight seeing options.
Many readers of NORTHERN RUNNING GUIDE rate the New York Marathon highly. Reader Chris Broadbent says: "New York is just out on its own. It's like running through an absolutely huge Jerry Springer audience - everywhere you looked for 26 miles there were hundreds of people crowding the pavements, hanging out of windows, whooping and hollering. There were bands playing at regular intervals and you saw jugglers and clowns. It was amazingly colourful and just incredibly loud!
“And remember New York provides the best night out in the world. We wore our finishers' medals when we went out to dinner in Manhattan at night and everywhere we were greeted with congratulations and offers of drinks. New Yorkers are fantastic - incredibly upbeat but genuine too."
Simon at Sports Tours International agrees: "We'll take a big party to New York this year (runners plus family/friends) and they'll have an incredible trip. The fun starts the day before the big race with the Friendship Run, a short jog through Manhattan to Central Park where 20,000 people turn up in fancy dress and national costume many with the flag of their home country draped around their shoulders. It's a brilliant friendly atmosphere and gets all the runners in the mood for the real deal the following day."
