planetFear Hits The Dales
1 JUL2010
The planetFear Endurance series continued in style last weekend, with a 12 hour adventure race in the Yorkshire Dales. Over 120 racers turned up to take part in the second race of the series, hosted by Open Adventure. The 120 brave competitors races in teams of two, completing 12 hours of adventure over the weekend, with the event split into two sections.
The first stage was a running section, seeing teams charge across Hashygill Moss, towards the summit of Wild Boar Fell and continuing across the fell to Mallerstang Dale. Competitors then had their first adventure challenge, leaping into cold pools of water and scrambling through rocks and on to their bikes. The undulating mountain biking track took racers to another plunge pool, at the Hardraw Force Falls and shortly after this, after seven hours of hard racing, competitors crossed the finish line of stage one.
The end of the first day saw close scores so teams knew the race would definitely be on the following day. Sunday's adventure started with a 100ft abseil at Hardraw Forse followed by a running stage . Next, racers were faced with a hard 400m swim and straight back on to their bikes for the final stretch of the race, finishing in West Burton.
The race was eventually won by Tom Gibbs and John Houlihan, gaining the most points in the mens category. Barbara Lonsdale and Jackie Scarf triumphed in the women's category and the mixed winners were Anthony Emmet with Helen Jackson. Full Results from the race can be found here.
