World Cup Webb Joins Great Yorkshire Run

Howard Webb, referee of the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa, has just signed up for this year's Bupa Great Yorkshire Run on September 5. The father of three, from Rotherham, who has chosen to support Sheffield's Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, will be making his debut in the popular 10K event.

Fresh from his duties in South Africa, Webb said: "I am delighted to be taking part in this year's Bupa Great Yorkshire Run and raise money for charity. Surprisingly I've never taken part in a run before, so I'm very much looking forward to September 5 and join all the other runners in Sheffield."

Sarah Champion, from the Hospice, added: "It's wonderful that Howard Webb has decided to compete in the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

"It costs £2.5 million every year to help children in this region with life-limiting conditions who won't reach adulthood and it's thanks to people like Howard and all the other runners who take part in the Great Yorkshire Run for Bluebell Wood, that we can help as many children as we can have a lifetime of love and laughter."

The Bupa Great Yorkshire Run will start on Arundel Gate, before heading along Penistone Road to Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium, before returning to the city centre. Race organisers hope to attract another record field for the popular race that will be televised on Channel 5. Online entries are still open for anyone who has not yet signed up.
