Isle Of Man Marathons This Weekend

6 AUG2010

Runners in the 2009 Isle of Man Marathon

Sunday will see runners on the Isle of Man battle it out in the annual SalClear Isle of Man Marathon and Half Marathon and with conditions predicted to be fair and sunny on the day, organisers are looking forward to a couple of great races.

The events are described as 'small and friendly', however, many of the runners will be out to try to beat the Men's course records, which have remained unbeaten since 1995 for both the Marathon and Half Marathon. John Wieczorek set a winning time of 2:30:07 for the full marathon and Graham Clarke set a time of 1:09:07 for the half marathon. Can these 15 year old records be beaten in 2010?

The ladies course records stand at 3:08:28 for the full marathon, set by Rebecca Johnson in 2008. She also hold the records for the L35-39 and L40-44 categories. The half marathon time to beat for the ladies is 1:24:36, set by Jackie Ashman in 2002.

The races start at Ballacloan Stadium in Ramsey and will take runners around a fairly flat course, reaching one peak of 259 feet, giving racers enough of a challenge but still a chance to enjoy the spectacular scenery on the island.
