A Birchwood Battle

20 AUG2010

The start of the 2009 race

1000 Runners in Warrington will be battling it out in the Birchwood 10K this Sunday, with the popular race returning for the 27th time this year. Running conditions should be perfect, with sunny intervals forecast, although runners will need to remember to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen!

The route will take runners on a circular route from Birchwood Railway station, mainly on roads, through Birchwood and Croft, finishing in Birchwood Boulevard.

The female course record was set by Hayley Haining of Kilbarchan AAC in 2007 at 32:59 and many competitors this year will be looking to beat that on Sunday. The men's record is also up for grabs, with the current record standing at 29:52, set in 2008 by David Webb of Leeds City AC.

All finishers will receive an imaginative luxury bath towel instead of a medal and the women will also receive flowers. There is also an extensive prize list, including veteran categories and corporate/group prizes.

Good Luck to all runners taking part in races over the weekend, remember to check northernrunningguide.com for results.
