Sheffield's Triple 10
9 SEP2010
Sheffield has a new 10k and, appropriately, it is being staged on 10.10.10 or Sunday, October 10, 2010. The TENTENTEN 10k starts at 10am in Endcliffe Park and follows natural trails and footpaths before heading up through Bingham Park to Whiteley Woods and back along trails into Bingham and then Endcliffe Park. The race consists of two 5k loops.
Organisers Stuart Whiteley and Doug Banks told northernrunningguide.com, "Sheffield is pretty well catered for in terms of road and fell races so we wanted to do something a bit different. Selecting a scenic route using Sheffield's green spaces was important to us as was the two loop concept which allowed us to create a supporter-friendly event.
"We have enlisted the support of Brooks Sports and local running retailer Accelerate UK and both will have a presence on the day. We are also inviting local clubs to attend the event, showcase their clubs and hopefully encourage novice runners to stay involved. So it should be a fun occasion with a big turn out of runners and supporters."
Stuart and Doug have ambitious fund raising plans too, and are aiming to raise £20,000 for local good cause, the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
The pair are hoping that success in organising this year's TENTENTEN 10k will lead to a running series in a similar vein in Sheffield next year.
