Entries Now Open For England's Second Kilomathon
10 SEP2010
England's second Kilomathon will take place in Derby on March 20 2011, in perfect time for anyone training for next year's London Marathon, just 4 weeks later. The new race distance of 26.2km has proved popular since the world's first kilomathon was run in March this year. Two similar events have also been planned for Edinburgh, with Scotland's first kilomathon being held next month.
The first race was won by Martin Williams of Wolverhampton, setting a benchmark time of 1:26:00 for the new 26.2km distance. The race was held on a course between Nottingham and Derby and Martin won by just three seconds, with Christopher Wilson from Paisley right behind him. Sarah Harris from Long Eaton took the women's title in 1:39:19, 45 seconds ahead of Scotland's Jennifer Maclean.
Over 4,000 runners from all over the world took part in the 2010 race and organisers GSi events are expecting numbers to increase for next year's challenge as the race distance grows in popularity with runners all over the country. Many runners in 2011 will be looking to beat the world record times set in 2010, however, the kilomathon distance will also be well used as a training run to help bridge the gap between the popular half marathon and marathon distances.
Runners looking to take part in the 2011 England Kilomathon can enter now online.
