Half Marathon Magic in Macclesfield

29 SEP2010

The start of the Macclesfield Half Marathon 2010

Over 750 runners took to the streets of Macclesfield last weekend to complete the town's half marathon in perfect running conditions. The 13.1 mile course took runners on a scenic route through the town before heading through the surrounding countryside.

Edward Mitchell won the race in a time of 1:09:44, three minutes ahead of his closest rival, Damian Nicholls (Wilmslow RC) in 1:12:51. Damian's team-mate, Mike Halman finished the top three, in 1:14:01. Olivia Walwyn (City of Norwich AC) took the ladies title five minutes later, crossing the line in 1:19:36, followed by Christine Howard (Matlock AC) in 1:22:57. Daniel Arrowsmith finished the race in 2:55:37 and the mid point runner was Louise Finney of Mow Cop Runners in 1:50:04.

The race managed to raise £8,500 for the allocated beneficiaries, and organisers are now looking for feedback from the runners so that they can start to plan a bigger and better event for 2011. Full results can be found here.
