Team Accelerate Adventure Racing joined the Rat Race this last weekend, in an event that took them through urban adventures in the heart of London. Two days of urban adventure racing, over two days saw Dave Spence, Caroline Bullard and John Cunningham competing against mixed and male teams in the London Rat Race.
Teams had to race around the streets of the capital, visiting checkpoints at various landmarks and other points of interest along the way. Each checkpoint reached would have a points value and the greater the challenge, the higher the score.
The race began on the Saturday, with distances similar to a half marathon and teams battled their way to the highest scores possible. As ever, fun challenges are combined with the more traditional, adventurous skills and obstacles associated with adventure racing. Following a city A-Z street map of London, the Accelerate trio finished the evening in top spot.
The second day gave the teams a running start before they headed out onto bikes and again a rapid collection of checkpoints. Teams visited the Oval Cricket ground, abseiling off the side of the building, then continued on to the Isle of Dogs for a spot of street orienteering.
Despite loosing the lead at the start of day two, Team Accelerate battled hard to finish ahead of the field, winning the event outright, and clear winners in the Mixed Team Category.
Next up for Team Accelerate is a trip to Abu Dhabi for the world renowned Adventure Challenge and a multi disciplined stage race against the best in world adventure racing. Team Accelerate are managed and supported by local running specialists Accelerate, based out of their Attercliffe store.
