Half Way Across America For Gumpathon
11 OCT2010
Six men are currently making their way across the USA in a spectacular challenge to cross the country in aid of three service charities on both sides of the Atlantic. The men have covered half of their full distance so far, an incredible 1765 miles, since they started the challenge last month.
The men are running from New York to Santa Monica; each runner has a schedule which he aims to complete, including rest days where the other runners cover the distance. The team has run in some tough conditions so far, extreme dry and hot weather and even being attacked by stray dogs! The runners have passed through several states and cities and have even been joined by local runners in some stages, which has helped to improve motivation.
Some of the team have struggled with injury, but they are all in good spirits as they pass the half way point in their mammoth challenge to cover 3530 miles. The men are completing the run in aid of The Royal Marine Charitable Trust Fund and Help for Heroes in the UK and an American charity, The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
