Sheffield Half Filling Fast
27 OCT2010
Entries for the 2011 SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon has already passed the 600 mark after just weeks of launching. The race, celebrating its 30th year in 2011, is renowned for attracting runners from all ages, backgrounds and abilities, and again promises to be one of the biggest participation events in Sheffield's sporting calendar.
Last year's race reached its entry limit of 5,500 well ahead of race day and this year looks set to be no exception. Runners are urged to get their entries in quickly for the March 8 race, to avoid disappointment. Raced day will include the half marathon race and a 3K fun run, starting from the city's Don Valley Stadium
Ian Thomas, entries coordinator for the Sheffield Half Marathon, said: "It is great to see once again that people are backing the race and, despite the economy still being in some difficulty, entries are coming in thick and fast - it is only October but preparation is needed for this event and signing up is a great motivator for people's training routine.
"As well as being a great event the race raises huge amounts for charity and we urge runners if they are choosing to run for a good cause, to pick one of our 10 nominated charities. Last year's race raised a fantastic £95,000 for local causes."
