Great Manchester Run Entries Now Open

Entries for the Bupa Great Manchester Run 2011 have opened today, for the 10K race's 9th running on May 15 next year. In excess of 30,000 runners now take to the streets of Manchester for this popular race, a number which has grown threefold since the first running of the race in 2003.

The race has been won for the past two years by Haile Gebrselassie, who may return in 2011 to retain his title after reversing his decision to retire yesterday. Britain's Jo Pavey has twice won the ladies race, in 2007 and 2008.

The course starts on Manchester's Portland Street, taking a loop past Old Trafford before finishing on Deansgate. Race organisers provide several 'Bands on the Run' to keep up runners' spirits and the course is fantastic for spectators, being almost out and back.

Online entries are open now priced at £36. The first 28,000 places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, with the remaining 10,000 places being drawn in a ballot.
