New Club For North East Marathon Runners
19 NOV2010
A new club has been started in the north east of England for local runners who enjoy the challenge of a marathon. The North East Marathon Club (NEMC) was formed in October 2010 by a group of marathoners and the club aims to bring local marathon runners together, sharing experiences, ideas and help promote morelocal marathon distance races.
With the Newcastle Town Moor Marathon this weekend, NEMC has a great opportunity to engage with local runners and start to build a foundation for the club in the area. Anyone can join the club, regardless of age or ability, whether training for their first or fifteenth marathon. The club currently has 36 members and newcomers are always welcome.
The philosophy of NEMC is to organise 'no frills, no fuss, low cost, scenic and accessible marathons for local runners in our local area'. The club aims to make it easier for marathon runners to get to races outwith the north east as well as being in early planning stages for a number of new marathon distance races in the area, including a Kielder Water marathon for members in March.
If any local runners are running in this weekend's marathon and are interested in joining the club, please visit their website for more information.
