Busy Winter For Newcastle parkrun

parkrun in Newcastle is not only holding a Christmas Brunch on December 18 and festive runs on Christmas and New Year's days, it will also be celebrating it's first birthday on January 15 2011. This winter will see lots going on at Newcastle parkrun in Exhibition Park, with competitions special post race brunches and celebrations to keep parkrunners running, even in the snow.
Saturday, December 18, will see the event host a Christmas brunch after the race, where runners are invited to bring drinks or snacks to the Cafe in the Park, which will be shared between runners after the race. The vent will also be holding a Christmas competition, where parkrunners can donate 50p to guess the number of runners that will turn up to the run on Christmas Day. The closest guess will win a prize and all funds raised will go towards to costs of running parkruns in the future.
Christmas Day and New Year's Day parkruns will go ahead as normal in Newcastle, starting at 9am, followed by the first anniversary of the event on January 15. Joining the birthday celebrations will be Sweatshop, Nike and Lucozade, with goodies for the runners. The day will include a brunch in the cafe after the race, as well as presentation of some awards to both runners and volunteers for their commitment and achievements over the past year.
parkrun is a free, timed 5K run, held each Saturday in various locations across the UK. Any runner can go along after registering on the parkrun website.
