Team Accelerate Abu Dhabi Bound
1 DEC2010
Sheffield-based Team Accelerate Adventure Racing will soon be travelling from Arctic Britain to the warmer climes of Abu Dhabi, for one of world's most prestigious multi day, staged adventure races. The Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge (ADAC) takes place from December 10-15 and will be a far cry from the current white-out that is gripping the UK.
The Team of four travels out in the next week and for the first time will be fielding a less traditional 50/50 split of male and female racers. Caz Bullard, Julia Hobson, Dave Spence and Dan Halliday will be representing the British team and all are currently making their final preparations for the race.
When approached and asked if having two women in the team was a disadvantage, Caz was quick to respond, "Hell no, that's not a disadvantage! Any team is only as good as its slowest member and Julia and I are determined not to be that person. Also, I think women are a lot more determined than men and most have a stubborn streak and we will both be pushing from the front".
The team travels out with the backing of three new team partners including X-Bionic who are providing climate control clothing.
The team faces 121km's of desert orienteering, an arduous 94km mountain bike section and finally a 128km paddle. As of yet the course is unknown although teams will also face a triathlon-prologue, shorter MTB and Trek sections coupled with rope work and a ply in the local mountains.
Expectations for Team Accelerate are difficult to summarise. For Julia and Dan this is there first major race abroad and Julia's first 'Big' event with the Team. Dan, Dave and Caz have already seen success together this year as they slipped under the radar before finishing second in the UK's only World Series event, the Terrex.
