Get Festive With parkrun

22 DEC2010

winter parkrun logo

Of the 12 parkrun events across the north of England, some will be holding Christmas Day runs, while others are winding down over the festive period and planning a comeback on January 8.

northernrunningguide.com has pulled together information on all the north's parkrun events; whether they will be taking place on Christmas Day or welcoming back runners on January 8. Take a look and see if you can work off those Chrismas excesses prior to sitting down for the big meal ...

  • Newcastle: The event is going ahead, and organisers hope that there will be plenty of runners keen to soak up the Christmas atmosphere.
  • Albert Park: Organisers will be running a sweep on the number of finishers on Christmas Day. If you want to take part in that and win a box of Lucozade bars, then visit their website for more details. Organisers are also keen to remind runners that all finishers and volunteers on the Christmas and New Year's Day runs will also go into a draw for one male and one female entry to next year's Tees Pride 10k. The two winners will be announced in the week after the New Year's Day event.
  • Sunderland: Normal race days scheduled on Saturday for both Christmas Day and New Year's Day have been brought forward and will now be held on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve respectively.
  • Bramhall Park: The run will not take place on Christmas Day, but on Boxing Day instead.
  • Heaton Park: The next event will be Boxing day at the normal time of 9:00am, organisers are looking for volunteers! After this normal events will resume on January 8.
  • Oldham: The next run will take place on January 8.
  • South Manchester: The next run will take place on January 8.
  • Woodbank: The next run will take place on January 8.
  • Bradford: The run will go ahead on Christmas Day - organisers want to remind runners not to forget their flasks and mince pies!
  • Hull: The Christmas Day parkrun will be featured live on Radio Humberside sometime between 8:15 and 8:45am. Tune in and listen, or better still, be there. You could be live on air!
  • Leeds: Check the Leeds parkrun website for more details - or email organisers.
  • Sheffield Hallam: The next run will take place on January 8.

While the information we have provided here, was correct at time of publishing online - please always check with your local parkrun website or Facebook page before setting off for the most up-to-date information. Other than that wrap up warm and have a great time.
