Hebden 22 mile Trail Challenge

31 DEC2009

Fancy a 22 mile or a 14.5 mile run or even a walk? Saturday January 23, 2010 will see the Hebden 22 Mile 'race' be hosted again by the Calderdale group of the LDWA for the 4th time. The popular rural and hilly route has a limited number of 350 entries so an early entry is advised.

With good parking, changing facilities and refreshments onsite, a fun and enjoyable atmosphere is guaranteed. With the choice of the long (22 mile) or the shorter (14.5 mile) route, participants can decide which route to take. 'Walkers' are also allowed to enter and enjoy the scenery and atmosphere of the day by completing the routes along with the runners. The demanding long route has over 4000 feet of climbing. The shorter walk is a less demanding circuit and provides a leisurely return along the canal to Mytholmroyd.

Hebden

2009 saw 301 individuals take part with 126 deciding to run the 22 mile route, 39 ran the shorter version and the walkers were split with 80 deciding on the full route and 56 opting for the shorter course.

The start time is 8am for both routes and for runners and walkers, the only time limit is that everyone must be finished by 5pm. Registration and car parking is at Mytholmroyd Community Centre, Mytholmroyd HX7 5DY (GR SE011259). Entry fee is £7 for LDWA members or £8 for Non-LDWA members (with an extra £2 entry for on the day entries). This includes tea, coffee and toast at the start, refreshments en route, a meal at finish, transport for retirees, and a completion certificate!

Due to the conditions organisers stress the importance that all entrants are advised to wear appropriate clothing for winter conditions and to carry the recommended map, torch, compass, whistle, survival bag and mug. Some navigational ability is required. So if you fancy a rural challenge, whether its walking or running this could provide a great day out for all the family (U18's must be members of the LDWA or walk with their parents). Dogs are also allowed!

More details of the challenge, along with race entry forms, route maps and results from 2009 can be found on the Hebden Calderdale website.
