Early Rush For Liverpool Marathon Places

Yesterday was the first day for entries for the new Liverpool Marathon scheduled for October 9. Organisers were delighted when close to 500 runners had signed up by the end of the day. Excitement is mounting in the city in anticipation of the return of the classic race and an expected field of 12,000 is expected to toe the line on race day. Local runners are guaranteed 3,000 places but in reality many more Merseysiders will be in the historic starting line-up in October as they are expected to take a big chunk of the 6,000 openly available places and, knowing Liverpool's reputation for generosity and community spirit, of the 3,000 charity places.

Although the official closing date for entries is September 9 given the early rush it would be wise to book soon to guarantee your place for what is being tagged the 'Long & Winding Road Race'. Entry details on the Run Liverpool website.

Organisers have also released details of the route which starts at Birkenhead Park, and heads towards New Brighton before coming back along the riverside promenade to the Tunnel. When runners see daylight they'll have gone about half way and will be about to enjoy some of the city's top sights - the Liver Buildings, the Albert Dock and the Anglican Cathedral.

Runners are now heading east where they will run through Sefton Park before doubling back along Princes Road and then down to the docks and the final mile or so to the finish line the finish line at Canada Boulevard.
