parkrun Records At Newcastle & Sheffield

31 JAN2011

parkrun action from Newcastle

Close on 2,000 runners took part in 13 parkrun events across the north of England on a cold Saturday (January 29). Biggest turnout of the day was at Bramhall Park, where 290 runners took part; veteran Malcolm Fowler gave Chris McGahan 30 years of a start and was only 4 seconds adrift of the teenager at the finish line.

There were record numbers at both Newcastle (206) and Sheffield Hallam (151) despite cold weather. First timer Martin Proctor took the honours at Newcastle in 16:48 with Tynedale Harrier Joanne Lee producing a PB (18:51) to be first woman.

Leeds, Middlesbrough and Heaton Park were all 200 plus events. At Heaton Park, Eddie Simpson was fastest man in 16:40 while Salford Harrier Hayley Kuter (18:55) was first woman on her first appearance at parkrun. Smallest field day was at Oldham where there was a memorable run for Sarah Roberts who recorded a PB of 26:01 and was first woman.

parkrun North extends to 14 with the arrival of the Bolton event on Saturday.
