Jo Wins In New Orleans

14 FEB2011

Joasia Zakrzewski

British runner Joasia Zakrzewski won the Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans yesterday, February 13 in 2hrs 47 minutes. The Dumfries-based athlete posted the best marathon time recorded by a UK female this year.

The 35 year old GP started running three years ago and has already won district recognition. This latest performance is a significant personal best, taking nearly 14 minutes off her previous time from the London Marathon last year.

Jo enjoyed success in the gruelling women's Atacama Crossing in the dry desert of Chile last year where she led the women's race from the start and placed sixth overall, having completed the entire 250km in a superb time of 33:37:50.

In New Orleans Jo, who is a member of Dumfries Running Club, finished 5 minutes ahead of second woman Lafayette's Karen Lockyer. Jo's split time was 1:24:07. In the men's race, Fred Joslyn broke away from Lafayette's Kevin Castille at the 18th mile and won with a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes, 49 seconds.
