Great North 10K On The Move

15 FEB2011

Gateshead International Stadium

The Bupa Great North 10K has a change of venue in 2011. After two years in Sunderland, the popular event is moving to Gateshead, where the International Stadium will provide a spectacular backdrop for finishers on Sunday, July 17.

Subject to the relevant approvals, the course will start outside Gateshead International Stadium, on the Felling Bypass. It is intended that runners will pass notable landmarks such as the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, the Sage Gateshead, Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Tyne Bridge.

It is also expected they will then follow the river west, past the residential developments at the old Garden Festival site. Runners will return through Gateshead Town Centre, past the Civic Centre before finishing back in the stadium, which has been the venue for so many athletics highlights over the years; including Asafa Powell's world record equalling run in the 100m on the stadium's track in 2006.

Last year, nearly half of the 5,000 strong field who took part in the Bupa Great North 10k went on to take part in the Bupa Great North Run 2010. Entries are available online and on a first come, served basis.
