It's Sumo Time
5 MAR2011
How do you fancy being part of a Guinness World Record attempt? Sign up to the first ever Sumo Run Manchester and you can do just that! Already a successful event in London, this year sees a move to the north of the country with the launch of the Manchester event.
Taking place on July, 2 in Manchester's Heaton Park, the 5K route will take in the park's beautiful lake and a number of listed structures along the way.
Rivalling its southern sibling in London, it will be interesting to see whether Manchester is able to break the Guinness World record set by the 2010 Sumo Run London for 'The Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Sumos' in a true North vs South challenge!
It promises to be a fun day, with all partiicipants donning the same inflatable sumo attire in a sea of pink plastic flesh. A great event whether you are in training for a marathon or just like dressing up at the weekends, the Sumo Run really is a hybrid of serious exercise and light-hearted fun all in aid of a good cause - Gemin-i (an educational charity helping children around the world share ideas and work together for a brighter future).
Registration is £25 before April 1 and £30 thereafter. This amount covers the cost of the Sumo Suit (which you get to keep!) its postage, an information pack, a fundrasing guide and the charity's administration costs.
