Entries are open for the British 10K London Run which is set for Sunday, July 10. The race is one of the most popular on the UK race calendar with around 25,000 participants in the annual event. The race covers central London which takes in some of the UK's most iconic landmarks including Hyde Park Corner, St James's Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and Horseguard's Parade.
The event always attracts a lot of celebrity runners and Olympic athletes. The legendary Haile Gebrselassie is a former winner of the race, as is 2004 Olympic marathon winner Stefano Baldini. The event has a strong British theme and is decorated with gigantic Union Jack flags throughout the course.
There is traditionally plenty of pomp and circumstance around the event. This year will see the band of Her Majesty's Life Guards perform at the opening ceremony.
There are over 500 charities supported by the event, but the official charity of this year's event is Anthony Nolan, which finds matches for leukaemia patients who need a lifesaving transplant. For all entry information, see www.thebritish10klondon.co.uk
