Racing Fixtures Hit By The Weather
11 JAN2010
With much of the country still covered in the white stuff, the racing calendar was hit hard over the weekend with many races having to be cancelled or postponed for runners safety. The Bupa Great Winter Run was one to go ahead with a great field of runners and many spectators braving the cold weather to support the runners. However, the Garstang 10k fell to the snowy conditions but for those of you who entered, do not worry, your number still counts for the re-run of the event at the end of the month.

The full race results of both the Bupa Great Junior Run and Great Winte Run can be accessed on www.northernrunningguide.com race results page. The Shining Cliffs Fell Race was also able to be run and results can also be found on this website. With snowy and icy conditions underfoot, those that did run had to take extra care on the course. The 5 mile race was won by James Walker (Selton Striders) in a time of 31.12 minutes, well in front of second placed Karl Webster (Matlock AC) in 32.03 minutes who was also first vet home (M40). Lesley Crane was the first female home in 41.48 minutes.
The Garstang 10K and the 'Hit the trail 5' were postponed bcause of the weather but both have been re-scheduled for Sunday January 31, 2010. So those that have entered your number will still be valid for the re-run. And for thoe that have not entered but would like to run, entries are still available, visit the official website or entry foms and further information.
