parkrun Arrives In Liverpool
23 MAR2011
parkrun finally arrives in Liverpool on Saturday with the first weekly 5k time trials being staged at Princes Park. The free event starts at 9.00am and has been funded by the Decade of Health and Wellbeing, Merseyside Athletics Network, Liverpool Mutual Homes and Liverpool Active City.
Event Director, Russell Burnham said: "This is fantastic opportunity for people who want to get into running, or want to improve. These events have proved massively popular all over the country - Manchester has three every weekend! Everyone is welcome to come along to the parkrun, and the great thing is that it is completely free! All you need to do is register online and then turn up and run.
"The new parkrun gives people the opportunity to have a go at running, and enjoy running as a way of getting fit, and also to find out about some of the other opportunities that are available in Liverpool, such as the big races and running clubs."
The city will also stage the Half Marathon on Sunday and the event double-billing launches what is certain to be a massive year for running in Liverpool with a full programme of events throughout the spring and summer and the return of the Liverpool Marathon in October.
To register for Saturday's event go to the parkrun website.
To find out more about a great programme of running events throughout the year go to the RunLiverpoool website.
