London Calling For Lemoncello

24 MAR2011

Andrew Lemoncello running

UK Olympic marathon hopeful Andrew Lemoncello is in upbeat mood following a solid half marathon performance in New York last weekend. The Scot, who now lives and trains in the United States, will be looking forward to next month's Virgin London Marathon with thoughts of a distance PB (currently 2:13:40) and possibly a sub 2:10 performance.

Lemoncello had problems with a faltering pacemaker at London last year when he made his marathon debut and was disappointed with his time. Reports suggest that is he is targeting the London Marathon for a big run this year with a view to building his confidence for 2012.

Posting on runnerslife.co.uk, the 28 year old describes his recent run in New York and how he ran closely to a pre-arranged plan, devised with his coach Greg McMillan, to "stay relaxed through the 8 miles around Central Park and then start to really work over the last part of the course."

Encouragingly Lemoncello recollects: "I felt strong with five miles to go and knew that I would be able to stay that way to the finish." And post-race he confirmed that his training has had a different focus from 12 months ago: "It's a different kind of fitness this year, not better, not worse. It should make things interesting!"
