The first ULTRA race series in the UK calendar for 2010 takes place on Saturday January 23 and Sunday January 24, 2010 in Northampton. The Ultra 45 mile race in Northampton is a point to point trail race through towns and rural paths and will provide a tough course for the hardy souls who enter. With the route run one way on the Saturday and then reversed on the Sunday, you can either enter just on one of the days or push yourself and run both days completing the full 90 miles!
Advertised as 'flat', the 45 mile route is still bound to through in some challenges. With water stations every 10km and traffic free roads, the support from spectators and marshals along the course will be good. Supervised baggage storage and parking facilities are available, with a medal and memento t-shirt provided to all finishers. Discounted hotel rooms are available for runners at the finish on the saturday evening at the Park Inn and the Pendley manor in Northampton. A map of the route is available on the official website.
With no 'on the day' entries available, you need to get your entry in early (£28 entry fee). And with this being the first year of the exciting new ULTRA race series on the UK calendar, it is sure to be a popular event. Race entry limit is 300 competitors with postal entry deadline being January 16, 2010.
If you fancy starting up Ultra Running then this event provides the ideal starting point with the 90 mile distance split over 2 days, or if you fancy a easier introduction to the event, the 45 mile route on one of the days. Race organisers suggest that this is the ideal preparation for those looking to do the Marathon De Sables.
