Parkrun No.9 In Yorkshire

Saturday sees the arrival of parkrun no.9 in Yorkshire with the introduction of a new event in Pontefract. Following the recent additions of second parkruns in Sheffield and Leeds and a new event in Huddersfield, Pontefract parkrun signals the continued expansion of the 5K weekly time trail that is free to take part in.

The first event starts at 9.00 am (arrive 15-20 minutes before for warm-up / pre-race briefing). The event is free but you must register online in advance and bring along the barcode you are provided with. Check out the Pontefract parkrun website for full details.

The course has been accurately measured and is contained within the parkland on the inside of Pontefract Racecourse which at 2 miles long is the largest flat racing circuit in Europe. However, the course itself is not entirely flat; the highest point is by the Grandstand and the lowest in the north east corner by Park Road/railway bridge.

The start is on the track around the inside rail of the racecourse close to the south eastern corner of the boating lake and takes in a circuit of the lake before returning to the track for a full circuit of the racecourse. This is followed by a second circuit of the boating lake. The finish is on the path around the lake, close to the start point.
