The spotlight is firmly on the north-west this weekend as Haile Gebrselassie sets out to defend his Bupa Great Manchester Run title tomorrow, Tyson Gay chases the title of 'world's fastest man', and a small but hardy group of endurance runners battle through rounds 2 (Saturday) and 3 (Sunday) of the Brathay 10 in 10 at Windermere - 10 marathons in 10 days that is!

Firstly the Ethiopian legend Gebrselassie previewed the big 10K: "I love running here. Manchester is fantastic city. The atmosphere is aways great and the crowds are always so supportive. I'm really looking forward to the Run."

And what's true for Haile is true for the 30,000 plus who will lap up the atmosphere as the take part in the UK's biggest 10K. All the action from Manchester will be televised on BBC2 with coverage of the Bupa Great Manchester Run (10:00-12:00), the British Gas Great Salford Swim (14:00-15:30) and the Powerade ION4 Great CityGames (15:30-17:00).
