Pacers Out At Newcastle parkrun

9 JUN2011

The clever people at parkrun are always attempting something new. Last week the organisers of the national free 5k weekly time trials staged their RUNFREE initiative which saw runners around the UK enjoying a special day with lots of fancy dress, free bottles of Lucozade Lite and, in response to the request for people to bring a friend, an impressive 1,993 people who did their first ever parkrun.

RUNFREE Saturday saw parkrun record its largest ever total attendance with over 11,000 participants at 70 events. 14 runs had their highest individual turnouts with new records at Middlesbrough, Pontefract and Leeds Roundhay parkruns.

Not wanting to lose momentum the enthusiastic crew at Newcastle parkrun will be putting on their own special event feature this week - monthly paced runs. Volunteers will be pacing for 20, 25, 30 and 35 minute times so if you're aiming for one of those landmarks then Newcastle parkrun is the place to be on Saturday, June 10. Look out for the pacing team members in their distinctive green tee shirts who will be there to help you achieve those time goals.

Newcastle parkrun, like all of the English parkruns starts at 9.00am, and takes place at Exhibition Park at the boundary between the park and Newcastle Town Moor, nearest to Claremont Road.
