Multi-Terrain Winter Series Kicks Off

22 JAN2010

The Wellingborough Multi-Terrain Winter Series continues on February 7 and February 28, 2010, with runners deciding whether to enter the 5km, 10k or 15km races which all start at 10am. The series of races was started on January 17 with round 1 taking place and saw a great turnout of runners entering each race distance.

If you are looking for a fun run or serious race in some stunning surrounds, then the varied terrain of the Jurassic Irchester Country Park, Northants, is ideal. It doesn't matter what ability you are as you have the choice of 5k, 10k or 15k. Each race is run over a mixture of terrain, including gravel, grass, mud, soft tracks and hard surfaces. The first event of the series took place on January 17 but runners can still opt to enter the final 2 races of the series taking place in February.

Full results of round 1 of the series can be viewed on the official website. 99 runners completed the 5km course with Andrew McKenna finishing first in 16.49minutes, Georgina Schwiening was first female home in the 5km race in a time of 18.12minutes. The 10km race involved 160 runners and was won by Richard Ashtonin a fast time of 32.39minutes with Stacey Penn winning the womens 10km race (41.22minutes). 93 runners braved the full 15km course, with Phil Holland winning in time of 49.10minutes and Juliette Minter winning the womens race in 56.35minutes.

The difficulty of the course depends on the weather with the conditions under foot being variable, ranging from wide flat areas, to narrow uneven paths - caution will need to be applied at all times. Hot food and drinks are available onsite, along with baggage storage being available near the start area - you will need your race number before handing in your bag and to collect your bag after the race.

The course for all 3 distances is the same, with the 5k runners completing 1 lap, the 10k runners 2 laps and the 15k runners 3 laps with everybody starting at the same time, 10am. Race entry for the 5k, 10k and 15k for affiliated runners are £9, £10 and £11 and for non-affiliated runners £11, £12 and £14, with a £2 extra charge for entries on the day.

More information regarding the events can be found on the official website, where race entry forms are also available.
