Green Marathon Set For Milton Keynes
25 JUN2011

Earlier this week details of the first Manchester marathon in a decade were announced. Now there is news of a second big event set for Sunday, April 29 with the Milton Keynes marathon joining the Manchester race on the running calendar on this date.
The launch of the 2012 Milton Keynes marathon took place earlier this week at stadiummk, Milton Keynes with appearances by Pete Winkelman, chairman of MK Dons FC, David Hill, Chief Executive of Milton Keynes Council and Tim Roberts of Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors, sponsors of the Corporate Relay Event. The new event is being billed as the 'green' marathon and the course is traffic free on closed roads and cycle paths or 'redways' as they are known locally and without any significant incline there is real PB potential for all participants.
Pete Winkelman said he was "delighted to have the event start and finish around stadiummk" and expects the event to become a highlight in the city's calendar. He said: "We will have a unique selling point in that it is a green marathon, exposing all the great things this city has to offer. It will be great to have everyone's family and friends in the stadium at the end of the marathon to cheer them over the line."
The event has the backing of Milton Keynes Council, The Milton Keynes Parks Trust, Milton Keynes Dons FC and Destination Milton Keynes, the city's official tourism and information provider. Many businesses from the local area have become involved as event sponsors or will be participating in the Corporate Relay to run alongside the main race.
