Bradford Airedale AC has revealed their Ethiopian star Yared Hagos has been forced to relocate from his accommodation in Bradford to Newcastle. The 30-year-old distance runner, who only moved to the country at the beginning of the year, has won every race he has entered since joining the club in May.
Since his arrival in Bradford, Yared has been staying in temporary council accommodation and was hoping to find somewhere permanent. Having learned at short notice that his flat would no longer be available, Bradford Airedale members along with neighbouring clubs tried to find somewhere for the athlete to stay. With little time to organise alternative accommodation, however, Yared has had to move to Newcastle.
The Ethiopian born runner has been in exceptional form since joining Bradford Airedale, winning several high-profile events and setting a number of course records. In August, Yared won the Darlington 10k ahead of 1,300 competitors with a record time of 30 minutes and 6 seconds. At the beginning of this month, the athlete finished a staggering 4 minutes ahead of his closest competitor in the Tynedale Harriers' Hexham to Ovingham 10-mile road race.
Yared's tale is all the more moving considering his talents were only recognised in 2008 by the organisation Running Across Borders. After assisting his progress by establishing a training camp in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, Yared's first appearance on British soil was in last year's Baxter's Loch Ness Marathon.
Whilst this relocation is unlikely to deter Yared from competing in the northern running scene and beyond, he hopes to return to Bradford before the end of the year and says he is already looking forward to participating in the cross-country circuit with the club this winter.
