Morpeth On The Right Track

19 OCT2011

Morpeth Harriers

Some four years after original plans were formulated and almost four decades since Morpeth Harriers were owners of their own dedicated running track, construction is progressing at the Kind Edward VI School site on Cottingwood Lane.

With work beginning in early August, the site has undergone a radical transformation with around 20,000 tonnes of earth excavated. Recent updates show the visible outline of a track with a substantial field suitable for either football or throwing events.

The track is expected to be finished by 2012 and is set to enhance the strong reputation the North-East club has established since its formation in 1946. The Harriers have faired well in both cross-country and road running events, twice finishing in the top five in European Club Championships.

The Morpeth Harriers hold a weekly training session on Monday evenings at the Clubhouse in Grange House Field, with new members encouraged to attend, regardless of level. You can keep track on the progress of the Harriers' new home at the club website, which also contains more information regarding weekly meets and race times.
