Green Light For Northern Run

19 NOV2011

Bupa Great Manchester Run

Organisers of the Bupa Great Manchester Run have confirmed entries are now open for the tenth staging of their event on Sunday, May 20, 2012. The 10k race, one of the most eagerly anticipated in the running calendar, is expected to attract around 40,000 runners.

First held in May 2003 when around 10,000 competitors took part, the event has experienced a massive upsurge in popularity and boasts some of the most prestigious names in the sport as previous winners. Haile Gebreselassie has won the event on four occasions while Jo Pavey has been successful twice.

Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council and a regular participant in the event, commented: "I'm delighted to welcome the return of the Bupa Great Manchester Run. This is the tenth time we've hosted the run which gets bigger and better every year. Next year's run is of course in Olympic year and I hope this will inspire even more people to pull on their trainers and get running."

Entries for the Bupa Great Manchester Run are priced at £37 and operated on a first come, first served basis. For more information, visit the event website.
