Haweswater Half Marathon Helps Local Community
16 FEB2010
The Haweswater Half Marathon takes place on Sunday March, 7, 2010 at 11.30 am. This year's race entries have again been taken up many months in advance. With the 2009 event seeing a record number of runners and a highly successful running of the event, 2010 places filled up fast. Eden Runners who organise the event, make sure that any profits from the event each year go towards helping the local community and last year was no exception.

Eden Runners told NORTHERN RUNNING GUIDE: "Any profits from the Haweswater Half Marathon are used to help improve facilities and create opportunities for junior athletes in Penrith and the local area. Last year saw the unveiling of a new athletics pavilion at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith, part-funded by Eden Runners. This year we helped to fund the refurbishment of the long jump pit at QEGS, and have started a bursary scheme to help young, gifted runners with their travel expenses to big events."
With the race full this year, organisers are hoping for a good profit from the event again this year. The Haweswater Half Marathon route follows an out and back course from Bampton Village (9 miles south of Penrith, 4 miles west of Shap) and passes along the shores of Haweswater in a remote and dramatic mountain valley. The hilly course offers an exhilarating run in unique surroundings.
The course records for the Haweswater Half Marathon are Rodri Jones 1:10:02, with the womens record set at 1:19:15 by Sarah Carson. Last year's results can be seen on the Eden Runners website.
