Sunderland Welcomes New Group

6 DEC2011

Run England

Sunderland Harrier David Savage has set up the first official Run England group in the city. News of the Seaburn running group's formation comes not long after entries opened for the inaugural Marathon of the North so there's a lot happening in the city for runners of all abilities.

The group are scheduled to meet every Thursday evening from 6.15pm to 7pm and welcomes everyone, whatever the ability, to the free sessions. One of the main objectives of the Run England Network is to get the nation out running by providing support and advice by qualified instructors.

Group co-ordinator David Savage commented: "The Seaburn running/fitness group aims to encourage beginners and new runners into the sport with the goal of comfortably achieving distances up to 5k and 10k easily. The emphasis of the group is to have fun, self-belief, to dispel the myth that running is not just for the elite and is something you can do and enjoy."

Training sessions at the Seaburn Leisure Centre will include a variety of fun warm-ups, easy workouts, a cool down and will conclude with stretching. For more information about joining the Seaburn team or if you want to find a group in your area, visit the Run England website.
