Berlin Sells Out In Record Time

15 DEC2011

Berlin Marathon 2012

Organisers of the BMW Berlin Marathon have announced entries are now closed for next year's event on September 30. Despite opening registration in October, the race has already managed to fill its quota of 40,000 participants.

The speed in which the entry capacity has been filled is the quickest in the competition's 39 year history. In this year's event, registration was closed in February, some seven months prior to the race.

The upturn in popularity - for what is already an established race and stands as one of the five Marathon Majors - may be in part down to Patrick Makau's performance at this year's event. Makau set a world record time of 2:03:38, beating the previous time of 2:03:59 set by Haile Gebreselassie.

Sports Tours International has some places remaining in conjunction with their Berlin Marathon travel packages but you will need to book soon as these places will sell out quickly. Check availability at the Sports Tours International website.
