New Runners Back MK Marathon
11 JAN2012

New marathon runners make-up half of the 3,500 entrants for the inaugural Milton Keynes marathon on Sunday, April 29, with 75% of those signed up not affiliated to running clubs. Race organisers are pleased with the make-up of the entry which helps them achieve their aim of encouraging more people to take up an active and healthy lifestyle.
Race directorAndrew Hully said: "We are delighted to see so many people from the Milton Keynes area entering the race. Overall entries have now passed 3,500 runners, and 55 teams have entered the Geoffrey Leaver Corporate Relay to be held alongside the main event. We want to encourage runners of all standards, and entries are coming in from as far away as Germany, Italy and Baltimore USA. This really will be a race for everyone."
The Milton Keynes marathon has been billed as the 'Green Marathon' and the course will showcase the best of the lakes and parks in the city before culminating with a spectacular finish inside stadiummk, home of MK Dons FC.
This is not just an event for runners, family and friends will be allowed free access into the stadium to cheer their runner over the finish line and a Sport Support Village will keep them entertained while runners are out on the course. There will be charity stalls, retail stands, sports massages, refreshments and entertainment from Heart Radio. If you prefer to go out and about to cheer the field there will be plenty to see and do around the course. Many local bands including The VIPeas, Retrobution, The Zeroes, Lobo Tren Street Band, The MK Pipe Band, school bands, singing groups and the Cairo Cats Bellydance Troupe have all volunteered to provide motivation for runners and entertainment for thousands of spectators.
Entries are still open for the Milton Keynes marathon so it's not too late to begin training, even if you have never run before. To find out more visit the event website.
