Weather Hits Racing Calendar Again

Once agan the road racing calendar was severely hit at the weekend with many northern races being cancelled or postponed throughout the region because of the latest snowy conditions. Although one race did manage to survive the cold snap. The Great North West Half Marathon went ahead in Blackpool.

The Trafford 10k, High Legh 10k, Wombwell 5 and the Village Bakery half marathon were not so lucky and were all cancelled. The Trafford 10k will be re-run on March 7 at 9.30am, runners with numbers can use their existing number on the new day. The High Legh 10k will be re-run on Sunday April 11, again runners with current numbers can hold on to them and use them on the new day of the race.
The Wombwell 5 mile road race and the Village Bakery half marathon have yet to name new dates for the races but both websites state that new dates will be identified and runners who have pre-entered will still be entered for the re-scheduled event. Keep an eye on the official websites for all of the races for the latest information on the events. The Great North West Half Marathon did go ahead with Stuart Robinson winning in a time of 1:09:36 followed home by Matt Nuttall in a time of 1:10:42. Gemma Unsworth was the first women in a time of 1:22:22 followed by Louise Kelly in 1:23:09. An impressive 881 runners braved the cold weather and completed the course.
