Love Runs a Charity Success
25 FEB2010
The Love Run 2010 was a great success. With races in Cardiff, Manchester Newcastle and London, race organisers Action Duchenne raised over £60,000. The money raised will help the charity find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The organisers of the Love Runs would like to thank all the runners that took part in the Love Run on a cold valentine weekend! Love Run race times have been posted on their website along with photographs of the race from each venue. For those that ran the events, check out your race time and position and see which city ran the fastest!
Once again this year's Love Run at Gosforth Race Course in Newcastle was a huge success with over 200 people taking part in either the 10k or 5k race. Unlike the previous year the weather behaved itself so participants could enjoy the course without the worry of snow and ice. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and a big thank you goes out to all involved from family, friends, volunteers and of course the runners in helping ensure the day went ahead smoothly. A great atmosphere with plenty of smiles!
Many runners have commented on how great the course was with everyone saying they will be looking to come back again next year. Kathryn Armstrong kindly got the runners ready prior to the start of the race by doing a warm up followed by John Miles, Tina Turner's guitarist, doing a count down and sounding the starting horn.
First home was Nigel Camilleri who completed the 10k run in an incredible 37 minutes 25 seconds. This was Nigel's first time in the Love Run and he thoroughly enjoyed the race and expects to come back again next year to hold on to histitle. Angela Hibbs, who was also taking part for the first time, was the first woman to complete the 10k with a fantastic time of 39 minutes 20 seconds.
In London, thankfully the snow also stayed away and we even saw some sunshine on Saturday for the Love Run in Battersea Park. In Manchester, over 150 people braved the cold weather. London Love Runners can purchase official race and finish photographs where 20% of all proceeds will be donated back to Action Duchenne.
