Team And Individual Challenges At The City of Manchester 10km

18 MAR2010

Last year, more than 2000 people ran in the City of Manchester 10k and it was started by running legend Dr Ron Hill MBE and the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Alison Firth. This year the event takes place on Sunday July 4, 2010.

Last year, the men's event was won by Ezekiel Cherob (Birchwood) in a time of 30.27, whilst the women's event saw a fantastic finish with Nicki Archer of Vale Royal AC overtaking Joyce Kandie in the last 50 metres to snatch victory on the line in a time of 35.24.

This year the City of Manchester 10k is on Sunday 4th July, American Independence Day, and the event at Sportcity will be the biggest ever! Alongside the main 10k race, we'll also have a "Toddler Trot" open to children under 8 to enter (mums and dads can hold the hands of the very youngest!) and the Corporate Challenge is brought to you in association with thebusinessdesk.com.

Each year, runners raise thousands of pounds for good causes and this time, our nominated charities are: Lord Mayor of Manchester's Charity, Key 103's Cash for Kids, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Francis House. You are of course, free to raise money for other charities should you wish.

This year, the organisers are also pleased to bring you the City of Manchester 10k Coprorate Challenge in association with thebusinessdesk.com. This is open to all businesses who wish to enter a team of runners, with the first three home counting towards the Challenge itself. It's great for staff motivation and firms can use the event to raise money their chosen corporate charity appeal. We look forward to seeing some competition between some of the North West's finest companies!
