Monumental Marathon Welcomes Human Racers

Mont Saint-Michel marathon

The comprehensively named Marathon de la Baie du Mont Saint-Michel, situated in Normandy, France, bills itself as the most 'Monumental of Marathons'. With some justification, too, as the gravity-defying medieval monastery that dominates the skyline can be viewed at the start and forms the backdrop for the finish of this popular event with sports tourists.

Human Race Events invites British competitors to swell the field of 5,000 runners from more than 30 nations at this friendly race in a region that is full of history and culture. This year's race takes place on Sunday, 28 May and the programme includes a brand new 55km, multi-terrain ultra on Saturday, 27 May, as well as the traditional 26.2 mile road race, half marathon, 10k and duo-marathon relay.

The Bay of Mont Saint-Michel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the marathon is renowned for its rolling route. The duo-marathon relay provides the opportunity to enjoy the race as a couple or with friends. The format requires two competitors to run as a relay team, with the first runner setting off from Cancale alongside the marathon runners, handing over to the second runner in Cherrueix, who will experience the dramatic finish at the foot of Mont Saint-Michel.

Entry fees range from 14 euros for the 10k to 68 euros for the ultra-marathon. Full details are available at the official race website and a direct link to registration is here.
