Clennell Trail Marathon or 10 Mile Run

Come for a fantastic run in the stunning Northumberland National Park. The Cheviots are some of the biggest hills outside of the Lake District as England flirts with the Scottish border. Our events are aimed at not only people who just want to pop up for the event but also at those who want to bring friends and family and make a weekend of it! We offer two distances; the full trail marathon or the 10 mile run.

CLENNELL TRAIL MARATHON

Long distance running doesn't get any better than this. Up hill and down fell you will be pushed hard in this ever undulating terrain. Prime farming land in the upper Coquetdale area and all the way across to the forest of Kidland will test your navigation skills and endurance. You will even get the chance to skirt along the England/ Scotland border and follow the Pennine Way route for a short while before commencing the journey back to the finish.

If you are thinking about taking on this event then chances are you already have a fair idea of what long distance running is all about. Just in case you are in any doubt we can tell you… it’s hard! You have to train well and push yourself both physically and mentally to get to the end. So why do it? The reason is obvious! The absolutely massive feeling of satisfaction you get from knowing you have done what the vast majority of people can’t do. That tick in the box to say you set yourself a goal and through all adversity you achieved it – not for anyone else and not for the glory but for yourself.

Check out the elevation map on our website (www.highfellevents.co.uk) to see for yourself that you’re in for a treat. The good thing is that there are not many seriously vertical leg burning climbs and most tend to be over fairly lengthy distances. A really strong training regime will be required to get you through it.

10 MILE ROUTE

You will follow the same route as the marathon runners and then when they divert off into the madness this route will steadily head higher before descending through forest and winding its way back to Clennell Hall. Guaranteed to get your heart going but once you’ve “got high” there’s nothing left to worry about as the hardest bit is behind you.
