Steve Ovett and Seb Coe

Enormous attention will focus on Usain Bolt at this summer's Olympic Games. The world's fastest man is the standard bearer for the sport and millions will watch the men's 100m final looking for a gold medal-winning performance, a world record and some world-class showboating too.

London Is Must Do

4 MAY2012

Virgin London Marathon

The ballot for the 2013 Virgin Marathon closed within 24 hours of it opening last week (April 30), presumably due to huge demand. A record 36,705 completed the race in glorious conditions this year in front of a television audience of around three million.

Hoka Grows On You

25 APR2012

Hoka Bondi

The first time I headed out in Hoka One One's Bondi B model on an evening when I was feeling quite drained from a hard day at the office, I struggled. I'm a mid-weight runner, neutral, someone who likes a bit of cushioning to protect hips and knees, but on looking at the Hoka - 'I thought s'truth mate, these babies are a bit on the bulky side'. We're all looking forward to the brighter nights but as I look back over the winter months, I'd like to say thank you to a new and special friend. Back in November I wasn't looking forward to the weeks ahead - no evening runs along my favourite canal path route; mid-week runs confined to busy streets.

Long Run Learnings

21 MAR2012

Robin Hood Marathon

The long run is absolutely critical to a successful marathon training schedule. I am writing this having just completed my 20 mile effort in preparation for a spring marathon. It's fair to say it's an element of the marathon build-up I utterly dread. It's long, painful, slow and with no immediate reward at the end. I always feel like I deserve a medal or t-shirt at the culmination of this run.
