In a move that will further expand the Great North Run weekend, organisers have confirmed the addition of a Great Tees 10K. Scheduled for Saturday 8 September, the 10k looks like it will be a cracker and has been designed to hug the banks of the Tees and will take in iconic landmarks such as the Infinity Bridge and Newport Bridge.
Scheduled for Saturday 8 September, the event will be joined by the Great North CityGames Elite Mile race, which is relocating from Gateshead for the first time, plus the Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great Tees Run.
Moving alongside the banks of the famous River Tees, the Simplyhealth Great Tees 10K will follow a flat, closed road course that starts and finishes on Riverside Road, close to Princess of Wales Bridge.
The race will also take in the Maze Park Nature Reserve, Durham University's waterfront Queen's Campus and the Millennium Footbridge before crossing the finish line on the Riverside.
The Great Run Company's Chief Executive, Paul Foster, commented: “We are thrilled to be able to bring the Great Run series to Stockton-on-Tees. Our partners, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, have been determined to bring these events here, and together we're looking forward to welcoming thousands of families to this vibrant Borough to take part and to watch in September.”
Entries for the Great Tees 10K are now open and priced at £22. Further information is available here.
