Organisers of the 13 Valleys Ultra anticipate over 1,000 entrants for their new event in the Lake District National Park, which has been designed to attract new runners to ultra distance, and new visitors to the Lake District.

There are three distances for the event which will be staged from from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October – 5 Valleys (60km), 7 Valleys (100km) and 13 Valleys (180km) – each promising spectacular trail and mountain running over the fells, round the magnificent lakes and waters, and through the unique valleys of the National Park.

The Great Run Company, organisers of the Great North Run, has developed this major new event in partnership with the Lake District National Park. They have pledged to donate 5% of all entry fees to the Lake District Foundation to support its work. The event has been designed and will be delivered with sustainability at the heart of the operation to minimise the impacts of the event on the Lake District.

Paul Foster, CEO of Great Run Company said: "The 13 Valleys Ultra is a hugely exciting concept. Our vision is to create a challenging new ultra that brings both new people to the sport and attracts a world class field to the Lake District.

"The terrain means the event will be one of the toughest challenges in the UK for ultra runners, but we know the beautiful backdrops and local support will help participants rise to the challenge.

"Our partnership with the Lake District National Park makes this event possible, and we've worked with them since day one to ensure that the event will make a hugely positive impact on the Lake District. We're pleased to be making a donation for each runner to the Lake District Foundation to support its essential work.

"We've already had huge interest from within the UK and overseas, and with limited places available in year one, we're encouraging people to enter quickly."

Those wishing to take part in the 13 Valleys event must have completed at least one 100 mile ultra event in the past two years. However the 5 Valleys and 7 Valleys options offer participants a more accessible opportunity to experience the spectacular 13 Valleys route.

Participants will follow a fully way marked route with regular check points and feed stations to keep fuelled and motivated.

You can be part of the first ever 13 Valleys Ultra event as a participant, volunteer or supporter.
